Quilts From Kentucky and Beyond
This exhibition includes 39 American quilts made between the 1830s and the late 1990s that reflect both the development of the U.S. textile industry as well as the creativity and aesthetic preferences of their makers — all but one from a private Louisville collection assembled over the course of three decades.
Together, the quilts reflect the development of the U.S. textile industry, along with quilts’ remarkable adaptability to changing popular tastes, material availability and individual quilters’ whims. For their makers, quilts provided a creative outlet that influenced the lives and aesthetic experiences of those who saw and used them.
