“Beautiful, unexpected, and tender.”—Guillermo del Toro
In this one-night-only special screening in honor of its Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, you’ll see how this film has warmed the hearts of audiences around the world—from Cannes where the film premiered to its first screening in North America at the Toronto Film Festival.
Spanish director Pablo Berger (Blancanieves, Torremolinos 73) has lovingly adapted Sara Varon’s charming and quirky graphic novel set in 1980s New York. The film plays like an engaging silent film as characters from different world negotiate a relationship that requires patience, endurance, and sacrifice.
Dog lives in Manhattan and he’s tired of being alone. One day he decides to build himself a robot, a companion. Their friendship blossoms, until they become inseparable, to the rhythm of 80’s NYC. One summer night, Dog, with great sadness, is forced to abandon Robot at the beach. Will they ever meet again? 2023, Spain/France, DCP, 102 minutes. Recommended for 12+.
