“This is a wonderfully sympathetic, deeply felt and tenderly funny family drama”—Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

Memories of My Father depicts the life of Héctor Abad Gómez, a doctor and a human rights activist concerned with both his own children and the children of the underprivileged classes in the violent 1970s in Medellin, Colombia.

His home is a center of vitality and creativity that is the result of a progressive education based on tolerance and love. Driven by sadness and rage when a terrible cancer takes the life of one of his daughters, Héctor devotes himself to the social and political causes of the time, without regard to his personal safety. This is an intimate story seen through the eyes of his only son, Héctor Abad Faciolince, one of the most outstanding writers in contemporary Colombia.

An official selection of the Cannes Film Festival. 2020, Columbia, DCP, in Spanish with English subtitles, 136 minutes.  Recommended for 16+.

Talk Cinema is programmed by the esteemed film critic and film curator Harlan Jacobson featuring a sneak preview screening of an art-house film prior to its release followed by a discussion. Be the first to see the latest films and to share your impressions.
