“The finest jazz movie ever made.”—David Parkinson, Empire Magazine
“Charlie Parker heard Chet Baker playing somewhere […] and the legend was that he called Miles Davis and Dizzie Gillespie and said: ’Hey, there’s a little white cat out here who’s giving you a lot of trouble.’” The renowned photographer Bruce Weber noted that everyone has a story about Chet, cramming his own into a unique documentary which earned him an Oscar nomination 35 years ago.
Bruce Weber and his crew tracked the legendary jazz trumpeter and vocalist from one U.S. coast to another and accompanied him to Europe on what would ultimately be his last tour. Here’s a remarkable opportunity to view this restoration, with its electrifying collage of studio shots, rare footage of past concerts, the young, chic Chet in Italian B movies going way back, and authentic interviews with the aging, fragile musician. 1988, U.S., 4K DCP, 120 minutes.
