To counter the history of colonizers upending the coffee trade from Africa, Bartholomew Jones and Renata Henderson of Memphis-based Cxffee Black established an all-Black supply chain for coffee—from farmers to exporters, importers, roasters, baristas, and even local rappers who shared the information with the community.
This documentary explores Cxffee Black’s trip to Ethiopia to connect with Tamiru, a coffee farmer to reestablish a Black supply chain. The film and the process reclaim the history of coffee and reimagine its Black future. 2022, U.S., video, 45 minutes. Recommended for all ages.
Cinema + Followed by a post-screening discussion with producers Renata Henderson and Bartholomew Jones as well as composer Milan Credle.
