Oil on canvas

ADOPTED
Conservation of this artwork was made possible by a generous contribution from Connie Goodman through the Adopt-an-Artwork program
Although Monet painted this picturesque view in grey weather, over the years its appearance has become significantly yellowed. The old varnish has completely discolored, and a black layer of grime is present on the paint surface. The overall tension of the canvas has gone slack, and there are tiny losses and abrasions in the green grasses.
Full treatment includes the removal of the surface grime and discolored varnish. Tiny losses and abraded areas will be filled in, and the painting will be reattached and secured properly in its frame.
A small cleaning test indicated that the final result will be dramatic.
