This new digital restoration of the French 1960s chic classic is filled with sexual tension, hedonism, raging party antics, murder, and distrust.

It’s a lazy Saint Tropez vacation beside the Hockneyesque swimming pool (la piscine) for lovers played by the dashing Alain Delon and riveting Romy Schneider—until her ex (Maurice Ronet) suddenly drops in with his daughter (Jane Birkin)—and, as a former ménage à trois becomes a ménage à quatre, mortal consequences loom.

The film was a massive hit when it was originally released in France in 1968, with over 2 million viewers packing cinemas. It’s accented with an incredible score by Michel Legrand and screenplay by Jean-Claude Carrière. Restored in 4K from the original 35mm negative. 1969, France, DCP, in French with English subtitles, 123 minutes. Recommended for 16+
