Co-presented by the Louisville Film Society, local filmmakers will present short works of fifteen minutes or less followed by questions and comments from the audience. This edition features a special jury prize of $500 for the best film of the slam.

This twice-yearly program offers a great opportunity to view works by established and emerging filmmakers from the region. Running time: approximately 90 minutes. Recommended for 16+.

Stewards of the Land
Directed by Thomas Wavid Johns and William Hartsock

This documentary follows family farmers and ranchers throughout the U.S. who are passionate about producing high quality protein in a way that sustains industry, supports communities, and preserves our land and ecological resources for future generations. 2023, 7 minutes.

House on Haunted Hill
Shay McCleavy and Elizabeth Maines

This short film was shot at Kentucky’s Ward Hall and features music from duo Queen Aster comprised of Kentucky artists Elizabeth Maines (co-director) and Justin Miller. With dark lyrical reflections inspired by southern gothic artwork, the film creates the feeling of being haunted, trapped within cyclical toxicity.  2023, 4 minutes.

A young man moving into his new apartment finds out his roommate isn’t who he thought he was. 2023, 15 minutes.

How the Twin Towers Were Built

The Twin Towers represented a new era in New York City’s history, as various completely new methods were used during their construction, which made it possible to build the new tallest buildings in the world. This short web-documentary explores the lasting legacy of the iconic towers. 2022, 15 minutes.

Blanch

Rebecca is a painter struggling to break through in the local art scene, and she has set her sights on befriending Amelia and Colin, a power couple and owners of a trendy, on-the-rise gallery. For a birthday present, the broke Rebecca gives Colin a coupon offering to cook dinner for the couple, and when they call in the favor, Rebecca has to decide how far she’s willing to go to stay in their good graces – and whether their graces are even all that good. 2023, 14 minutes.

Rae Monroe’s song Distance reflects on the positive and negative experiences she felt during the height of the pandemic. The film combines paper-cut stop motion with line drawn animation to show playful and meditative images and rotoscoping of the performers. 2023, 2 minutes.

Lynn’s Fire

Lynn’s Fire is a short documentary about a Kentucky man’s decades-long birthday tradition of gathering family and friends for the experience of lighting an enormous bonfire and the profound impact it has on his life. 2023, 7 minutes.

Carrots for Conrad
