Toddler Takeover
March 8, 10 AM – 12 PM.
Theme: Colors Everywhere!
Explore the whole museum at the independent pace of your young children. Child-friendly stations are placed throughout the museum with additional activities like storytime, art making, games, and puppets.
We The People
Location: Gallery 2
Activity: Shoelace exploration! Encourage toddlers to observe and notice the variety of shoelace colors and patterns in We the People by Nari Ward. Toddlers can’t touch the shoelaces in the artwork (even if they want to) but they can touch and explore a collection of colorful shoelaces and string.
Art Making
Location: Ed Court
Activity: Toddlers make colorful mosaics with paper color squares on blank paper, with glue sticks. Immediate drying, so they can take their masterpieces with them.
Color Watch
Location: Gallery 4
Can you find yellow? Can you find purple? Sam Gilliam uses LOTS of colors. A book reading is a backup.
Book Reading
Location: Gallery 5
Read storybook “Niko Draws a Feeling.” Toddlers can then look at the abstract art and talk about how they “feel.”
